Riding
in the mountains is one of the most exhilarating experiences known to
good riders. Below are some tips to help you ride quicker and safer
in the curves.
-Don’t
treat the mountains like a race track. Try not to ride above 75% of
your potential.
-Always look ahead. Whether you realize it or not, you will always go
where are looking.
-Always ride with your toes on the pegs.
-To drag a knee, shift your body off to the side of the bike (butt crack
on the edge of the seat), and lower your inside knee. Your outside knee
is used to hold yourself on by the tank. All shifting of weight should
be done with the legs!
-Always keep one or two fingers on the front brake.
-It is always best to hit a corner too slow than too fast. If you run
out of lean angle in a curve and feel that you cannot make it, do not
hit the front brake. Instead, straighten the bike up, apply full braking
force, and lean back into it.
-Gravel is not your friend
-Make sure you stay in a gear in which you have enough torque in reserve
to pull yourself out a situation should you need to accelerate quickly.
-Be as smooth as possible.
