Who
we are: Triad Riders consists
of a core group of 8 riders centered around Winston-Salem, NC
which we call 'THE CREW.' Our 'MEMBERS'
are either guys who ride with us occasionally, or former crew
members that have moved out of the area. We do not claim to be
a stunt team by any means, but simply a well-rounded group of
riders, and friends, who like to have a good (and relatively safe)
time out on our bikes.
Who can ride with us?
Anyone! We love having new faces join us/show us up. Please come
out for our Sunday afternoon ride. We meet at Burke Street Pub
at 1:00pm and head out at 1:30pm. The ride is usually between
3 and 5 hours long and consists of anywhere from 10-30 bikes.
Basic Rules for Riding:
Some guys like slow wheelies, some like fast wheelies, some like
curves, some like rolling endos, and some guys like to pop stoppies
right in front of you at the last second without notice (ahem).
Point being, everyone’s style is different, and with a large
number of bikes, safety is extremely important. Please
make sure everyone is aware of what you are about to do before
you do it AND check your mirrors frequently!
-Ride within your limits – Everyone
has their own pace, and no one will make fun of you for being
the last one. The leaders will always wait at all turns that need
to be made - so challenge yourself, but don’t push it! (it’s
also ok to ride at a relaxed pace and just enjoy the day)
-Turn signals in addition to hand signals
are preferred, especially with large groups. Also, point out obstacles
(oil, gravel, roadkill) with your foot - just because you may
see it clearly doesn’t mean the person behind you will!
-If you are “forced” to pass
on a double yellow line, make sure you have plenty of space, an
escape route, and do it QUICK! Also, don’t pass if you know
there is a stop coming up ahead, that just ticks drivers off even
more. Do not pass other riders in a curve, wait until you have
a clear straight away so as not to cut them off. On the other
hand, BE AWARE - if you feel as though you are keeping someone
from going faster, veer to one side and wave them by.
-If you see a cop, tap the top of your
helmet. If you are going to run (i.e. If you are unfortunate enough
to spot a police officer’s shocked/pissed expression from
a bird’s-eye-view as you ride past him in a stand up wheelie)
WEIGH THE CONSEQUENCES CAREFULLY (and the likelihood of you getting
away). Also, if you get pulled for someone else’s stupid
move – you don’t know them! (They are just some careless
fool who joined up with you on the highway.)
-Heavy traffic is not the place to play.
However, we all let the ‘fever’ get the better of
us and feel the need to goof off in traffic, so, to avoid pissed
off drivers and numerous calls to the police, take an exit once
in awhile to let the group of cars you are with go past. Also,
make sure that there are plenty on bikes behind you to guard from
approaching traffic.
****Most important rule: If you
are going to goof off, please don’t put anyone else in danger!!
